Lagos Guide - Introductory Post

On returning to Lagos, Nigeria’s megacity & home to over 12 million people, things were still, well, different from everywhere else. In the US, for example, it was much easier to find out how to obtain a driver’s licence (learner’s permit). One could quickly find out the cost of such licences, where to get application forms & where to submit completed forms. This information is easily available in the public domain, accessible to both rich & poor, educated & uneducated, making it easy for residents to help themselves. This singular act reduces (perhaps totally,) the risk of falling prey to fraudsters or obtaining a fake licence, in this case or other fake documents

In Lagos, details of public services are scarce, very scarce. To get information on how to obtain a driver’s licence in Lagos one needs to know someone who either knows how and where to get a licence, or someone who knows someone, etc. Even at this, details are often scanty, with no one ever knowing the official (government) rate, even though it is highly unlikely that one would get any public document at the official rate.

This blog is a guide that aims to address this anomaly by providing a practical & legitimate guide to Lagos, the centre of excellence. It is a community blog, that provides information on goods & services (public & private) and also comment on issues that affect us all as Lagosians. Recognising the immense difficulty in getting access to basic services, the writer will collaborate with readers to get details about that crucial service and discuss pertinent issues in our locale.

I must add that the writer, in the course of this blog, does not have affiliation to any political party. I am only a concerned resident of Lagos, Nigeria who has experienced difficulty in getting information about services, products and even my right as a law abiding resident. This blog does not support any action or speech against the laws of Lagos of our great country Nigeria. It is a Lagos guide, a medium that uses the writers experience & findings with that of the readers of this blog. Readers are responsible for the contents of their posts.
